Creation Lessons Part 1

Joyful Life has a series of 3 Creation lessons in their Beginner books.  We combined them over 2 weeks.  The first lesson started with Day 1 and went through Day 3- Dry Land and Plants.

We went through the lesson.  We talked about how we also can make things (yummy things to eat, crafts, etc.).  Have they ever made cookies with their mom?  Could they speak, and the cookies would be all ready?  Nope, we need ingredients and supplies, and a recipe to follow!  But God spoke everything we see into being!  He's amazing!  People need to start with something to create something new, but God is God, and he makes amazing creations out of nothing- just by His spoken word!  Of course, we talked about all of our favorite plants, flowers, fruit trees and bushes, vegetable plants, grass, etc.

Then our craft was a little flower growing.  "All things were made by him." John 1:3.  God spoke, and they were here!

To play, we tended our gardens.  Dry beans were used for the seeds.  (These beans get used a lot in our sensory bins- over and over.)  We brought out our pretend fruit and vegetables that we use in our play centers quite frequently also!  I've gathered these from our own toys from home and from garage sales.  (Many of our realistic fruit and veggies were somebody's decorative fruit they were tired of and selling at a garage sale.  The kids love how real they look!)  Remember the flowers the girls used to decorate for Palm Sunday and Easter?  Those were "planted" in the flower gardens!

Maybe you've seen these play gardens?  I cut pool noodles to fit in our sensory bin and just covered it with a brown bath towel from our home.  We tucked it in between the noodles to form our rows.

I made seed packets using this free printable template.  I just glued some pictures on top for a variety of flowers and vegetables.

The class harvested their fruit and veggies.

Our sensory bin was full of black beans to look like soil and some little pots and containers from the Dollar Tree.  We used sand toys and our sensory bin scoops for digging and scooping.  The beans work well to poke the flower stems into, and they provide just enough support to hold them up!  Sand could also be used.

The girls had fun making their own flower arrangements!

Then they brought their produce and flowers to market to sell for others to enjoy!

It's quite the process for us to grow plants (even when we're pretending), but God can do anything- and when He said, "Let there be... " there it was!
