He is Risen! Empty Tomb Craft

How about a fun craft for Easter? A couple months ago, I saw a drink tray, and i thought to myself, "That could work well for the empty tomb!" (I was told that this is how you know somebody is a Sunday School teacher! Thanks, Lindsay! haha!!) I cut each of the 4 cup holders out -yup, the drink trays from fast food restaurants- and flipped them upside down. One of the sides, I cut a larger circular opening for the opening of the tomb. I hot glued it to a foamboard base cut to size. We added some moss and little flowers wherever the kids liked on theirs. The moss is quite hairy and crazy. Stamp it down with your fingers and let the kids cut the trimmings. My class loved giving their grass haircuts after it was hot glued on! We used sticks and grapevines (from our backyard) for the cross. The moms pulled together to bring in the stone that rolled away. We hot glued those in place. Some preferred just to use r...

Mama's Swim Soup

*Some reflections of shopping for a swimsuit 3 months postpartum with my 4th child* I had been putting off "swim soup" shopping all season. (My 4 year old called them that.) Is there anyone who enjoys shopping for these? Well, the kids had a pool party that afternoon, and Matt was going to be working on our kitchen. Since he wouldn't be there, I needed to be ready to get in the pool. Matt had to run to Home Depot that morning, so I asked him to pick me up a swimsuit there that looked to be about my size. He came home with kitchen stuff and donuts. Sooo, I went out later that day- nothing like the last minute- on a mission to find a suit that will cover these child bearin' hips! "Kohls will have one," I assured myself. "I'll just snatch up a sporty one I like and be on my way." Ha! They only had like 2 swimsuits hanging on the clearance rack and a few dangling bottoms that looked like they'd been trampled on with dusty foo...

What did those Mamas do?

I often think about the mamas on the prairie or the mothers in Bible times. Eve, as a first time mother, and the first mother trying to learn without being able to see tasks modeled for her. It is a gift to learn from other moms and to be able to observe what works well... Whenever I finish a package of baby wipes, which is a lot, I think: What DID those little Mamas on the prairie do when their babies had major messes... and they only bathed their babies once a month (if that), and they didn't have 10 jumbo packages of wipes lying around? For real- the regular diaper changes, the diaper explosions where it pops out, up, down, and all around reaching up to the hair, the spills, the messes, etc. We use wipes for ALL the things. I have a feeling we may get to know those moms' creative ways in the near future... ready or not! The mamas who came before us (and the creators of the baby wipes) are the real MVP's.
